While the likes of Primark and Next have always been go-to names when it comes to kidswear and kids’ fashion, we are now seeing a new trend with the big designer brands jumping on the bandwagon and taking a slice of this profitable segment of the fashion world.
The likes of North West, Harper Beckham, Suri Cruise and the latest editions to the Royal Family, have all helped with increasing the profile of these high-end fashion brands and have offered many smaller brands the opportunity to recreate fashionable styles from their adult collections into ‘mini-me’ fashion.
The designer kidswear market last year was worth an estimated £5billion worldwide on its own and it’s safe to say that this will only increase year on year.
There is also the tween market to be aware of – with the increasing tween and teen population and their heavy use of social media and need to be stylish, the high street retailers are putting a huge amount of time and investment in the design and style of the products available for this age bracket, which mirror the latest trends.
Luxury menswear e-commerce site Mr Porter has recently launched its debut kid’s selection which comprises of 90 products including brands from Orlebar Brown, Ralph Lauren, Harford, Vilebrequin and Frescobol Carioca, all of which have a full range of menswear available on the site.
This trend isn’t just for the high-end retailers, with Boohoo having a specific area for kids’ clothing that mirrors trends available for men and women.
Of course certain brands won’t really have the right demographic in their potential customers, but it’s worth noting that many parents who purchase the brand could also purchase items for their children at the same time, and with the teen/tween market being heavily dominated by the latest trends there is potential for almost any brand to start promoting fashion for kids.
Here at SL Black Label, we often get asked for youth sized headwear options, and even though we don’t hold stock of specific child sized headwear, we have the ability using our bespoke service to produce all manner of headwear options from snapbacks, dad caps, beanies and so much more.
As with all of our headwear products, we take testing and compliance seriously, and even more so when it comes to headwear designed specifically for children. Additional testing is available on request should your brand need full assurance that the product meets and exceeds standards for chemical compliance, colour fastness etc.
If you are dabbling with the idea of introducing a range of child/teen designs and you like the idea of adding headwear into your range, contact the sales team today and we will be more than happy to discuss ideas with you.
