As you may have read in our previous blog, London and New York fashion week has been in full swing during fashion month and Drapers have showcased potential new trends for autumn 18. If you wish to read the previous blog then please click here.
In this blog however we will take a look at 5 predictions from the good and the great of the fashion world regarding the latest trends for autumn 2018.
Milan fashion week saw everything from drones to dragons make an appearance on the catwalk. The key trends to note are:
As showcased during London Fashion, traditional English heritage items were a focal point of Milan’s show.
‘British classics like cosy knitwear, aristocrat checks, swishy trenches, scarf prints and muted neutrals filtered their way into the Italian styles, adding a subtle hint of countryside English eccentricism.’
This could be further proof of flat caps and baker boy hats being a popular product this autumn.
The activewear craze doesn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon. Instead fashion brands are continuing with a trend of sports clothing taking on a smarter overall feel and look.
‘As athleisure stretches its influence ever further, Milan’s super-luxe brands offered a luxed-up take on the trend for autumn 18. Gucci and Fendi riffed on popular streetwear logos and sporting shapes, but always in luxurious textures – with a fur logo reinterpreting retro sports brand Fila’s “F” on a sweater at Fendi. Athleisure separates were contrasted with tailored, heritage pieces and high-impact accessories for a playful fusion of high-end classics and street style favourites.’

At Milan fashion week, it was predicted that green could be among the many trending colours on the way for autumn 2018:
‘Greens across the spectrum, from neon lime to mossy khaki, cast a grassy sheen on the Milan catwalks. Prada, Versace, MSGM and Moschino showed near-luminescent shades with a hyper-modern neon glow, while a more sophisticated and pared-back approach came from olive tone silks at Anteprima and emerald eveningwear at Marco de Vincenzo and Ermanno Scervino.’
This show saw high end brands such as Dior and Alexander McQueen on the catwalk to round off fashion month in the French capital.
Is it possible that yellow may be one of the many trending colours for this coming autumn? Drapers have certainly picked up on the shade’s popularity during the Paris show:
‘Shots of yellow provided a bright counterpoint to the earthy tones that dominated much of the palette in Paris. Warm, golden yellow tones, in particular egg yolk and mustard, were strong at Valentino and Lemaire’
Continuing from the Drapers article, warm earthy tones such as orange and brown are set to be popular in autumn 2018:
‘Warm, orangey browns and autumnal earthy tones were a popular palette in Paris. Chanel displayed its entire collection in a rust-hued recreation of an autumnal woodland, while labels such as Chloé, Haider Ackermann and Isabel Marant showed clothing flush with toasty warmth.’
